Ryan Hicks is an Associate Attorney at Johnson McGinnis Elder Care Law & Estate Planning, where he advises clients on Medicaid eligibility, asset protection, probate, and other estate planning matters. Prior to joining Johnson McGinnis, Ryan spent over a decade serving as an attorney for various Tennessee state government agencies related to healthcare. He began his career at TennCare, representing the department in financial and medical eligibility appeals, and later served in TennCare’s Office of General Counsel, where he handled eligibility matters, advised on departmental policies to ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate legal risk, and analyzed legislation affecting the agency. Following TennCare, Ryan was Senior Associate Counsel at the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD), advising federally and state-funded programs serving Tennessee’s elderly population. He continued this work after TCAD merged with the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to form the Department of Disability and Aging.
