About me
Garrah Carter is a corporate litigator at Bass, Berry, & Sims PLC in Nashville, Tennessee, representing clients in complex business litigation and government investigations. She also has an extensive pro bono practice including representation of indigent defendants in wrongful convictions, obtaining orders of protection for victims of domestic violence, and providing legal advice to nonprofit organizations and small business owners. Garrah attended Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate studies and law school. Prior to attending law school, she worked in Tennessee state government as clerk of the Tennessee Senate Judiciary Committee. Garrah served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Virginia Kendall (N.D. Ill.) and a law clerk to the Honorable Eli J. Richardson (M.D. Tenn.). In 2022, Garrah was named a National Black Lawyers Top 40 under 40 recipient. In 2023, she was awarded the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Emerging Leaders Award in the category of Community Development. Garrah was a member of the Nashville Bar Foundation Leadership Forum's Class of 2025. She was named a 2025 finalist for the Nashville Emerging Leaders Award in the Legal Services category. Garrah was named the 2026 Tennessee Bar Foundation’s Harris Gilbert Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. Garrah also received the National Bar Association Women Lawyers Division Outstanding Young Lawyer Award in 2026. She has been included in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America in Commercial Litigation and Product Liability Litigation for the past 3 years. In addition to her career as an attorney, Garrah wrote and self-published two plant-based cookbooks: The Power of the Plant and Cozy Vegan. Garrah serves on the Boards of Corner to Corner, Diverse Learners’ Cooperative, Nashville Bar Association’s Young Lawyers’ Division, and is on the steering committee for the Nashville Bar Foundation Leadership Forum. Garrah is married to Carlos Partee, a fourth generation Nashvillian and serial entrepreneur.
