Equal Justice University 2026
Wednesday August 26, 2026 10:00am - 11:30am PDT
This presentation examines the legal implications and court processes related to unruly and truancy petitions, equipping attorneys to advocate more effectively for youth clients. Participants will develop a foundational understanding of how chronic absenteeism is defined, tracked, and referred to court, as well as the underlying factors that contribute to it, including mental health challenges, disability, bullying, and family socioeconomic status. Participants will also gain practical strategies to identify and address the root causes of truancy, navigate court processes, and support youth through effective collaboration with schools, families, and service providers.
